Panavally is a village panchayat located in Thykkattussery block in Chertharala taluk of Alappuzha district. Panavally panchayat has an area of 19.328 sq km and has 20 wards. The boundaries of the panchayat are Arookkutty panchayat and Puthanthod (Pallithod) on the north, Vembanad Lake on the east, Thykkattussery panchayat and Poochakkal Thod on the south, Ulavaypu Lake (a tributary of Vembanad Lake) and Arookkutty panchayat on the west. This panchayat was formed in 1953. The place name legend says that the Pandavas stayed here for a long time during their migration and that is how the Pandavas came to know this land as Panavally later. Panavally panchayat, which is mainly filled with sand and gravel, is a perfect plain. Panavally is an agricultural village, one of the four panchayats on a large island in the Vembanad Lake.
